The usual challenge. Fine and hand-knotted rugs, especially wool, hold dry soil deep in the foundation, and fringe and dyes need careful handling. That is why we bring them to our facility instead of cleaning them on the floor.
Our process for this kind of job:
- We pick the rug up and inspect the fiber, construction and dyes at Silk & Shine Rug Spa.
- We remove dry soil from the foundation with controlled dusting.
- We spot-test, then choose a wash or low-moisture method that is safe for the rug.
- Where it is safe, we rinse and extract.
- We dry the rug under control, groom the pile and do a final inspection before delivery.
The exact process for any job is chosen after inspection, and results vary with the material, its age, past cleaning and the contamination.
