Fire and Smoke Damage Restoration in Nashville, TN

Fire and smoke damage restoration for homes and businesses in Nashville and Middle Tennessee. Open 24 hours: (615) 482-5590.

A fire doesn’t end when the flames are out. Smoke and soot settle on every surface, water from firefighting soaks floors and walls, and the smell can linger in carpet, furniture and clothing for weeks. Deep Steam Floor Care & Restoration helps homes and businesses in Nashville and Middle Tennessee recover after fire and smoke damage. We secure the property, dry it out, clean the structure and contents, and work to bring back a space you can live or work in. Call (615) 482-5590. We’re open 24 hours.

First Steps After a Fire

Your safety comes first. Once the fire department says it’s safe to go back in:

  • Wait for clearance. Don’t enter until the fire department or building officials say it’s safe. Watch for weakened floors and ceilings.
  • Don’t wipe soot. Rubbing soot off walls, upholstery or carpet usually smears it deeper. Leave cleaning to equipment and products designed for it.
  • Keep the HVAC off until the system has been checked, so it doesn’t spread soot through the ducts.
  • Throw out exposed food and medicine. Heat, smoke and firefighting chemicals can contaminate anything that wasn’t sealed.
  • Take photos of the damage before anything is moved or thrown away. They’re helpful for your records and any insurance claim.
  • Call your insurance company to report the loss, then call us to start securing and cleaning the property.

Fire and Smoke Restoration Done Right

Assessment and securing the property. We assess the home or facility and take preventive steps to stop further damage and secure the property. That includes looking at what burned, how far smoke traveled, and where water from firefighting has collected.

Emergency board-up. Broken windows, doors and openings in the roof or walls leave a property exposed to weather, animals and intruders. Our professionally trained staff can board up and secure openings to protect your property.

Dehumidification and drying. Firefighting often leaves more water damage than the fire itself. Our drying team removes standing water and stabilizes the environment with air movers and dehumidifiers, so wet materials don’t develop mold. Learn more on our water damage restoration page.

Soot and smoke cleaning. Soot is oily and acidic, and it can stain and etch surfaces the longer it sits. Walls, ceilings, cabinets, floors and other surfaces are cleaned with methods matched to the type of residue and the material underneath.

Pack-out or on-site cleaning. Depending on the extent of the damage, contents can be cleaned on site or removed for processing at the secure Deep Steam facility. More on that below.

Carpet, upholstery, rugs and floors. These are the things we clean every day. Smoke-affected carpet, upholstery and hard floors get a deep cleaning. Area rugs can be washed in-plant at Silk & Shine Rug Spa.

Final walk-through. When the work is done, we walk through with you to make sure your concerns have been addressed.

Smoke Odor: What to Expect

Smoke odor is the part of a fire people notice longest. Smoke particles are tiny and work their way into carpet, padding, upholstery, curtains, drywall and even inside cabinets. Cleaning the soot is the first step, because odor can’t be dealt with while the residue is still there. Odor treatment follows.

In most homes, thorough cleaning and odor treatment greatly reduce smoke odor and remove most of it. Some heavily affected porous materials, such as soaked carpet pad, insulation or badly smoked upholstery foam, may be better replaced than cleaned, and we’ll tell you before any work begins.

Small Fires Still Need Real Cleanup

Not every fire call involves a burned-out room. Some of the hardest cleanups follow a pan left on the stove, a puffback from a furnace, or a candle that caught a curtain. A kitchen grease or protein fire can leave a residue that’s nearly invisible but smells strongly, and it settles on cabinets, walls and ceilings well beyond the kitchen. Smoke also travels through hallways and return vents into bedrooms and closets that never saw a flame. If your home smells like smoke after a small fire, it’s worth having it looked at before the residue sets into surfaces and fabrics.

Contents Cleaning: On Site or at Our Facility

Your belongings matter as much as the building. After a smaller fire, many contents can be cleaned right where they are. After a larger one, cleaning on site may not be practical, or you may need the space cleared for drying and repairs. In that case, contents can be packed out and taken to the secure Deep Steam facility for cleaning, then returned when the property is ready. Either way, we’ll talk through which items are worth cleaning and which aren’t.

Residential and Commercial Service

Deep Steam provides recovery services for both residential and commercial customers. For a family, the goal is getting back into a clean, safe home with as little stress as possible. For a business, it’s reducing the interruption to your operations and getting your doors open again. Every job gets its own plan, built around your property and your priorities.
